However, there was this constant theme of "creating jobs", when we already know that since the 90s, productivity has been completely decoupled from human labor; human labor is actually inverse to productivity in more and more fields. Human employment is becoming pretty much obsolete. The problem is not automation; that is natural; we need to change the economic paradigm. Just like we eliminated abject slavery due to mechanization, we need to eliminate wage slavery as a response to automation and computerization. Universal Basic Income seems to be inevitable, as an Oxford study shows that 46% of the US jobs will be eliminated by 2033, and that 40% of Australian jobs will be eliminated by 2025 due to automation. This applies to other developed countries as well. Note that there was "only" 25% unemployment during the Great Depression. Even in the case where you argue that repairing things might result in creating human-exclusive labor roles. An example: producing simple, molded chairs by machines from one durable material (which is light, and easy to recycle) is much less resource-, energy-, and labor-intensive than continuously producing and repairing elaborate wooden chairs - on the long run ;)
